For people who do not follow the independent news networks, I’m going to explain a very important and controversial bill that could be used in the future of the United States. This is the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and the specific parts that are starting to gain attention are Sections 1021 and 1022. Section 1021 states that the military has the power to detain American citizens indefinitely if they have ties to terrorist groups. And Section 1022 says that those detained by the military will be held by the United States Armed Forces.
This needs to gain more attention. It was already passed on January 31st, 2012 while most people were distracted with their holiday agenda. If you think this does not apply to you, you are wrong. If you think that the President along with Congress do not agree with the controversial sections, think again. According to Senator Carl Levin, it was the Obama administration that requested indefinite detention of American citizens. If this is true, people should be a little bit more aware of what their president and elected leaders are doing. And even if his administration didn’t ask for that provision, he chose to sign the bill anyway.
President Obama put out a statement when signing the bill which he made it clear that there would be no indefinite detention of American citizens. He wants people to know that he signed the bill so that he had funding for the military, not to lock up all the people. BUT he has the power to do so if he or any president after him feels necessary.
Hopefully with recent legislation introduced the American people can fix the mistakes that our President made. This might only have a chance of happening if people wake up and do something about it. Check out the American Civil Liberties Union website for more information on the topic as well as links to petitions and other ways to help regain your safety as a free American. This is a real thing happening in Washington. It will not just affect the “animals” and “bums” of the Occupy Movement, it has the power to affect any American citizen.
Over & Out, Please Wake Up.
