Give It A Shot

Reflections

I’ve been making videos and taking pictures for around six or seven years now, but I’ve just begun to take it seriously enough to think of it as a possible future. Since I am still only a senior in high school, I have not started any formal education into the media world. I didn’t learn much of anything from the courses offered in high school for a number of different reasons.

I was first introduced to digital arts through two friends of mine back when we started skateboarding. They would bring their cameras along and film videos which would then be uploaded on YouTube. From what I remember, they were the ones that kind of introduced me to filming and photography. They never really taught me specifically how to take pictures or film, my two friends simply gave me tips and pointers which would improve the outcome of my projects. I never really thought anything of it until now, but it is (indirectly) because of those two people that I am writing on this blog today. Because of those two people I have over two hundred videos uploaded on YouTube, and over four hundred pictures on Flickr.

I have been able to do the projects I do because of a handful of helpful people, different inspirational places, as well as my dedication to digital media. Many bands and hip-hop groups have helped to provide me with video and photo shoots as well as a political reform group, but most importantly my parents have supported me tremendously throughout the years I’ve been trying my luck at digital media.

I’m hoping in the future to continue film and photography for as long as I can, in any way that I can. I don’t believe in working a job that is not enjoyable, so that’s one thing I will try to avoid in my life. I don’t want to be stuck in a hospital with sick patients, or sitting in an office for a full work day; instead I want to do something that I love and will enjoy for the remainder of my life. I’m sure that’s what most people say when they’re looking at their future too, but why listen to people that tell you differently from what your heart tells you?

If you doubt something that you love doing, look back at your past, where you were when you began your passion. I’m sure everybody reading this is at an age where you can look back at what you love and see the improvements you’ve made or where your work really wasn’t looking as well as you would’ve liked it, but the important thing to look at is that you have made improvements and there is always room for more improvements. You have to keep working at what you love throughout time, never give it up, if you don’t like how something looks, try something new and see if you can form something out of that new technique.

I’m not at all saying that my work is the best out there or that I don’t need improvement; I’m just saying that there’s always room for improvements in your life, and sometimes a lack of inspiration might be why your searching for improvements.
Positivity is not always an easy task for me, I’m attempting to generate some positive thoughts from this post that could be useful to any readers that haven’t had a dose of inspiration in recent days or are just at a crossroads at what you do, in art or everyday life. This applies to myself as well.
I’m no therapist, but if your struggling with what you love don’t give up;
Look at your past. Then think hard about what you want the future to look like.

Comment on this post if your still reading when you get to this point. I’ll be surprised.

Slacker.

Ok So. Slacker I am, here is another post. A short, cheap blog post once again.

I am attempting to expand my videography into many different areas, very hard to do, but it will be done. Recently I have started getting asked to do many different videos, mainly music videos, and the one part that stresses me is charging a set price. Basically, my prices for video/photo shoots are different for every video, due to the fact that different videos take different amounts of time and effort to complete. As well as the location of shoots which will be factored in as well. I just wanted to make that clear, there is no set price, the price is to be discussed prior to the shoot. The End.

If anybody has any suggestions for my videos/photos, feel free to email me at holynick@aim.com. I love to hear what people like about my stuff as well as what people do not like about it. I want people to know that I am still a beginner in my mind, just on a different level. I am and always will be learning new things when it comes to the usage of my camera and the different techniques used to complete different videos. Thank Ya.

Saturday, March 3rd. @ The Loft in Poughkeepsie, NY- Pro T and JetForce Recordings, as well as many others will be performing in celebration on Pro’s birthday, and more importantly the life of Tim Crivello. Be There, It Will Be Fun.

Update #1 (of many): Lately I’ve been working on some videos which I will discuss right now, first off late last week we (the Jetforce crew) filmed a cypher video in which Jetforce members spit their finest rhymes either from the dome or from a written. This was filmed outside Coops house while Jetforce producers worked with other artists recording inside.  Next was a Horsemen music video, shot and filmed in Poughkeepsie. Horsemen is a duo rap group made up of Fresh & Chaos, check em out on Facebook and Youtube, as well as on my Vimeo. The video is to a track called “Before They End”. The Next video coming out soon from Holynick is a Jetforce music video to a remix of “Popular Demand” by B-Mob. This video was filmed in a disclosed location in the Hudson Valley, more to come from this spot too!

Hope you keep an eye out for some local talent, both from Holynick and from Jetforce and Horsemen performers. Keep real and Speak To You Soon.

Sorry.

I’m sorry I haven’t posted anything in a while, been busy with un-employing myself temporarily, filming a few new videos, and other daily activities. This week will be a big focus on this as well as my other sites I have to tend to. Check out my recent works I’ve been doing, many are not up yet, so keep checking back and give me some feedback! Thanks people for reading and supporting the holy in nick!

Dear World, I am going to attempt to write a short analysis post regarding marijuana. To provide a little background information, I have smoked marijuana in the past and I am in support of legalization, with regulation that is. Keep this in mind but also consider some of the things I bring up in this post. Feedback would be awesome, and when giving feedback remember that I am not a professional writer in no way at all. I am simply writing what I feel on this blog. I hope to have a future in writing, specifically journalism, and with that comes practice so here it goes. Enjoy.

The current drug war in America has failed, many leaders will not admit it but it really has. With nearly $51 billion being spent to fight against the so called “drugs”, is this money really being used effectively? I’m sure almost every single person reading this right now, give or take a few, has tried or been a user of marijuana for a period of time, both short term or long term. A second way you can tell the war has failed is by looking at your access to drugs, not even just marijuana. I’m not going to go into detail about it, you never know when the feds are watching, but myself as well as others have at least one person to turn to if they are in need of drugs, a wide variety of drugs too. This is going to focus mainly on marijuana rather than harder drugs like cocaine, heroin, or prescription pills.

Why is marijuana, also known as pot or weed, being fought against with so much money and force? There is too much propaganda happening on both sides of the spectrum: the police and government (anti-legalization) stating the negatives such as cancer causing, the consequences of being caught with drugs, and many mental health effects which can be irreversible; as well as the drug users and supports (pro-legalization) claiming medical benefits of weed, an enlightened mood when under the influence, or a mood enhancer. In my mind, being a user, a lot of things on both sides may be true. The way that the anti-marijuana forces are going wrong is through the education of the drugs, such as health teachers and advocators saying that if you smoke marijuana you will die. This obviously is not true, and your common sense about friends who have tried it or even yourself trying it, and then hearing these words just makes you laugh and not take that person seriously. The effects of marijuana have to be taught a different, more realistic way that will have a positive effect on the future of our country.

Marijuana is addictive, no matter what anybody says, you can form a physical and psychological addiction to the drug. You can say the same thing about almost anything today though; computers can be addicting for some, fast food for others, and cocaine for many others. This is not a guaranteed thing for a user; it is simply a caution that all users should be aware of when it comes to anything that can form an addiction. If you get too much of something you like and have a passion for, and you cannot control yourself very well with it, it gets out of hand and has negative effects on many aspects of everyday life. A physical addiction means that you not only get sick from a lack of using, but even just not feeling the same way if you don’t have the drug in your system. Maybe you have aches and pains, headaches, or a decreased appetite; those are signs of a physical dependence on weed. The psychological addiction symptoms may be isolating yourself from others in order to use, including yourself in groups of people with a goal to use the drug, then there are the obvious signs like irritability, constant thoughts of pot, and an increased tolerance which requires larger amounts to fulfill a person’s high.

Addiction is not felt by all users though, some not at all while others feel signs of addiction later on in their use. I think this is why legalization is so controversial and doesn’t happen like magic. If marijuana is in the hands of the wrong person, it can be very damaging to themselves, their family and friends, and the small world around them. At the same time though, marijuana can be very beneficial to some people for example Steve Jobs, the creator of Apple computers experimented with marijuana and LSD when studying eastern religion. He claims that LSD was very important to his inventive thoughts. This is not the case for all people using drugs, and it is surprising to some that such a successful person used marijuana. To sum up everything, I cannot speak for everybody and say that should be done with marijuana and drugs, nor should anybody else in the United States or the world. In my mind I could see a perfect society (regarding only marijuana) would be to set no laws regarding the plant. If a person wants to sell marijuana, let it be, but if they are enhancing their drug with plant “steroids” or growth enhancers then they should be given consequences. This is not a natural way of using the drug; it is not in any way safe if chemicals are added to it. If a person wants to smoke marijuana once in a while or every day, just let it be, until it comes to a point where it is no longer safe for the people around them. If a user; 1. Cannot support a family or themselves, 2. Cannot drive in a safe manner when under the influence of pot, or 3. Put others in harm when using the drug, finding the drug, or selling the drug, then they should not be using marijuana. If a person cannot set their own limits and cannot recognize an addiction, then their loved ones should step in to remove the harmful factor from their life. People should be educated as to the real effects on their own body’s response to marijuana, not what is generally felt from users of marijuana. People have to learn for themselves when it comes to life, not just marijuana but anything they are unsure of. Simple As That, Wake Up, and Learn For Yourself.

I Became The Hero

I recently have been filming concerts at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, New York. This past Friday was renamed “Strayday”, because a band known as Stray From The Path was headlining the show that night. Though I didn’t get to see the band that changed the name of the day, I had the chance to see a very talented local band called I Became The Hero. Before you watch the footage from the show, keep in mind where my head is at when I am behind the camera in the crowd; I make movies to show my perspective on the world around me, simple as that. I will explain this is greater detail as the time comes. As an example in the meantime, take into account the view in which I have filmed this band. As a person in the crowd, seeing a local band, getting pushed around by the moshpit happening right in front of me, getting to see each band member from the location I am sitting. Enjoy.

Tomorrow/Eventually I will be posting the details of my thoughts about perspective, and how my perspective has been changed by a group of revolutionary people, coming together to better the world.

(More To Come)

Noobie (Part Two)

The purpose of this blog for me is to speak to my mind on the internet and share as much useful information as possible as time goes on. This is a place I will get my thoughts out about the current GOP race going on, or the newest Cookin’ Soul mixtape that just dropped, pretty much anything that comes to my mind will be posted on here as I start getting used to it. Feel free to follow my blog if you’re interested in what I have to bring to the table, and also feel free not to.

My name is Nick Streva, I grew up in Lagrangeville, but I was born in Riverdale, both in the state of New York. I work at a shitty grocery store down the road from my house. I hope Brenda and Don follow this now that i gave them a shout-out. I’m studying nonsense at Arlington High School, and then hope to get accepted to Harvard (on the Hudson) so I can take some classes that may be more useful to me than Friday Night Lights or Speak. When I grow old and rack up the years on my age I’m hoping to have a career in some sort of communications or media studies, and if that falls through then I kind of want to start cooking up some crack, or really good food, not actual crack. Crack is Wack.

Noobie

To use the word “noobie” in a sentence- I am a noobie when it comes to blogging. That is a fact. I have had one blog in my past and it didn’t go well enough to keep using it, so after maybe 8-10 months of not blogging I will give it another shot. The inspiration comes to me from my cousin who has a blog and posts some really cool stuff. I will be linking many videos, pictures, and links to this blog because that’s what I do. Excuse my language as well, as I don’t have tourrettes but may cuss a wee lil bit in the future o’ dis blog. Thank you all for a moment reading this, now attached to this very first blog is the link to my cousins blog/website which inspired me to give it another shot.
